Gérald Genta conceived the Nautilus in 1976, drawing inspiration from a ship’s porthole to create a luxury sports watch unlike anything before it. The ladies’ reference 4700 brought that design to a delicate scale, becoming the first Nautilus crafted for the wrist of a woman. Its porthole silhouette, with the rounded-octagonal bezel and lateral hinges, remains recognisable decades on. This two-tone example marries steel’s sporty character with gold’s warmth, embodying the understated prestige that made the Nautilus coveted.
The cushion-shaped case pairs stainless steel with 18-karat yellow gold, the gold forming the rounded porthole bezel that frames a white dial. Slim gold Roman numerals and baton markers trace the hours, accompanied by a date aperture at three o’clock. The integrated two-tone bracelet flows from the case, alternating brushed steel with polished gold links for a refined interplay of tone and texture. A quartz movement powers this elegantly proportioned ladies’ icon.
