Etna is the most painted volcano in Europe and one Patek Philippe has now committed to enamel, continuing the Rare Handcrafts habit of taking named places rather than invented landscapes. The subject gives the enameller a legitimate reason for high-saturation orange against dark ground — a colour combination that would look gaudy on an abstract dial and reads as accurate here. Translucent and opaque enamels behave differently in the kiln, and firing them adjacent on one dial is the technical core of the piece.
The rose gold case measures 34.5 mm in the Golden Ellipse shape, the warmest metal against the warmest subject. The mountain, the plume and the flows are executed in cloisonné enamel, each bounded by gold wire before colour is laid. A self-winding movement drives hours and minutes only. The watch is completed on an alligator strap. The Manufacture shows these pieces together once a year, and named-place dials have become the thread collectors follow most closely through the modern programme.
This exceptional piece is not currently in stock due to its rarity on the market. Please register your interest, and our sourcing team will leverage our global network of collectors and trusted partners to pursue one on your behalf.
