Harbour scenes suit the Golden Ellipse better than almost any other subject in the Rare Handcrafts programme, because the case is wider than it is tall and a horizon needs width. The boats give the enameller straight lines against the curves of the water, which is a useful contrast in cloisonné — the rigging and hulls anchor the composition while the water carries the colour. Patek Philippe has used maritime subjects on the Ellipse for decades, and this continues that line directly.
The yellow gold case measures 34.5 mm in the elongated ellipse, with no bezel work to crop the scene. The boats and the port are executed in cloisonné enamel over gold, each element outlined in wire and fired in stages. A self-winding movement drives hours and minutes with no other indication. Alligator strap. Patek Philippe does not repeat a Rare Handcrafts motif across years, so each harbour dial exists as a single execution rather than as a model held in the catalogue.
