This dial is hand-guilloché beneath translucent enamel, which is the more architectural of the two Rare Handcrafts approaches — the pattern is cut into the metal on a rose engine and the enamel simply colours what is already there. Nothing is drawn or painted. The result changes constantly as the watch moves, because the depth of each cut governs how much light returns through the enamel, and that is an effect no photograph of the watch captures properly.
The yellow gold case measures 34.5 mm in the Golden Ellipse shape, which gives the guilloché an unbroken field to run across without a bezel or subdial to break the pattern. The dial is engine-turned by hand and finished in fired translucent enamel. A self-winding movement drives hours and minutes with no further indication. The watch is completed on an alligator strap. Patek Philippe cuts these patterns on rose engines that predate the modern factory, and the machines are operated by hand rather than programmed, which is why no two dials match exactly.
