The Golden Ellipse is the case Patek Philippe built on the golden ratio in 1968, and it has survived largely unchanged since — a shape with no bezel, no lugs to speak of and nothing to distract from the dial, which is precisely why the Manufacture uses it for Rare Handcrafts work. A cloisonné peacock demands a large uninterrupted field for the tail, and the Ellipse gives it one where a round case with a fluted bezel would not. The pairing of this case with enamel is the most consistent thread in the modern Rare Handcrafts programme.
The white gold case measures 34.5 mm in the elongated ellipse. The peacock is executed in cloisonné enamel over gold, its tail built from dozens of separate wire cells, each filled and fired individually in blues and greens. A self-winding movement drives hours and minutes only, with no seconds hand or date to cross the image. Alligator strap.
