The Calandre is among the most architecturally singular watches Cartier — a reference that demonstrates the house's willingness to treat the wristwatch as sculptural jewelry rather than a timekeeping instrument dressed in precious materials. The case form takes its name from the French word for the radiator grille of a classic automobile, and the resemblance is deliberate: a horseshoe-arched case body suspended from a horizontal bar that serves as both lug system and attachment point for the strap, creating a watch that appears to float above the wrist rather than sit flush against it. Produced in very limited numbers during the quartz transition era, the Calandre is now recognized as a collector's piece of genuine rarity, sought for its design specificity and its position within Cartier's most inventive decade.
The 18mm yellow gold case presents the characteristic arch-top profile, with a polished horizontal bar traversing the upper edge and a gold cabochon crown at three o'clock. The cream dial carries bold black Roman numerals and a fine railroad minute track, with blued-steel sword hands. A dark chocolate brown alligator strap with contrasting burgundy stitching completes the piece. A Swiss quartz movement powers the watch.
*This timepiece was serviced by Cartier in 2026, comes with a service paper from Cartier, a Cartier Travel Pouch, and a new Cartier strap.
