The Story Behind The Aeternum Blue Ring
Natural blue diamonds are among the rarest gemstones in the world, formed under extraordinary geological conditions that make each one inherently unique. When we encountered this particular stone, it immediately defined the direction of our design. Rather than designing first and sourcing later, we allowed the diamond itself to lead the creation of the piece.
At the heart of The Aeternum Blue Ring is a 6.76 carat Fancy Greyish Blue diamond, an exceptional natural blue diamond whose quiet intensity defined the direction of the piece. While fancy blue diamonds are celebrated for rarity, this particular stone possessed something more nuanced, a softness within its depth. The subtle grey modifier creates an atmospheric quality that shifts in changing light, giving the diamond movement and mood.
From the moment we acquired it, our in-house designer approached the stone as a singular creation. This was never meant to be just another blue diamond ring, but a statement of identity and permanence.
The addition of 27 natural intense pink diamonds totaling 0.26 carats was intentional rather than decorative. Pink was selected to awaken the blue. The blush tones amplify the richness of the natural blue diamond, making its color appear more dimensional and alive. Set in 18K rose gold, the halo introduces warmth without overpowering the center stone. White diamond side stones totaling 0.52 carats add balance and luminosity, while platinum provides structure and heirloom strength.
Several setting concepts were explored throughout the design process that we loved but did not end up choosing.
A sleek bezel setting was initially considered for its sculptural, modern frame. It wrapped the natural blue diamond in clean architectural lines, offering strength and bold presence while slightly softening the stone’s brilliance. Though striking, we ultimately felt it contained the diamond’s natural movement.
A traditional four prong mount was also developed to maximize light and openness. This approach allowed the fancy blue diamond to feel more exposed and luminous, enhancing the cushion cut’s natural flow. We refined this concept until the prongs felt secure yet delicate, creating the airy final structure of the natural blue diamond ring you see today.
Ultimately, The Aeternum Blue Ring is the meeting point of intention and craftsmanship.
