JA: Tell us more about your thought process behind the design of the pinky ring. What inspired it? And how do you style your own?

Michal Kurtis: “As I’ve become wiser about my wardrobe acquisitions, I have traded in a few would-be whimsical fashion purchases with core jewelry investments, namely the diamond studs and the gold bracelets I wear daily. And while these pieces add sophistication to even my most basic outfits, I wouldn’t go as far as calling them “cool". 

There are two jewelry categories that earn that title: the pinky ring and the ear cuff. When it came to the ring I wanted to wear on my exterior finger, I envisioned a form that embodies both strength and femininity. I immediately thought of a pear diamond, the weightier body with the delicate point embodies those two ideals.

"The striking use of the gold bezel and the added flick give shape to what I call a Cleopatra eye. Who better to embody womanly strength than the first woman to lead Egypt?"

While the design feels personal, I wanted to create a piece that I could see my friends wearing too, nearly all of whom have already put their names down for one of their own. I’m thrilled to witness the Mika ring become a meaningful addition to women’s jewelry collections and to watch this piece make others feel more powerful."
